New York Leads National Market with Over $2.4 Billion in Wagers
New York continued to anchor the national sports betting market, handling an impressive $2.44 billion in total wagers for March alone. GGR hit $161.8 million, with mobile betting again capturing the overwhelming share of activity. New York’s stringent tax rate (51%) meant $82.5 million was collected for state programs, far outpacing all other states.
New Jersey and Massachusetts Maintain Momentum
New Jersey, one of America’s pioneering sports betting markets, showed continued strength with $1.11 billion in handle and $71.3 million in GGR. State tax revenues reached $10.2 million, highlighting consistent market maturity despite increasing competition from neighboring jurisdictions.
In one year since launching mobile betting, Massachusetts posted strong numbers: $772.5 million in total handle and $52.1 million in GGR, boosted heavily by March Madness activity and growing engagement in same-game parlays.
Newly Launched North Carolina Makes Immediate Impact
March saw the impressive debut of statewide mobile sports betting in North Carolina. Launching mid-month, yet quickly generating a remarkable $685 million in wagers and $38.1 million in revenue, the state collected nearly $6.9 million in taxes, positioning North Carolina as one of the fastest-growing new markets and highlighting the rapid adoption of regulated online wagering.
