Forward Maxime Comtois might sign a contract with the Detroit Red Wings. According to RG sources, the Canadian player has several NHL offers, including one from the Red Wings. A decision about his future is expected in the coming months. He also received an offer from Dynamo Moscow of the KHL, where he played last season.
The 26-year-old forward spent the past season in Russia, scoring 50 points (21 goals, 29 assists) in 62 regular-season games. Comtois performed notably in the playoffs, becoming Dynamo’s top scorer with 13 points (7 goals, 6 assists) in 15 games. Demonstrating leadership, he helped Dynamo reach the Gagarin Cup semifinals for the first time since 2013, where they lost to Traktor Chelyabinsk, 1-4 in the series.
During his year in the KHL, Comtois established himself as one of the league’s most dynamic players, earning a reputation as its chief agitator with 99 penalty minutes during the regular season. His time in Russia revitalized his career, which had declined in recent years.
"I felt like I got a second wind," Comtois said in a recent interview.
"I've always said I want to return to the NHL, and this season I did everything possible to make that happen. Hockey had become just a job for me in North America, but here, it became my passion again."
Comtois was selected 50th overall by the Anaheim Ducks in the second round of the 2017 NHL Draft. He played five seasons with the Ducks, appearing in 210 games and recording 86 points (38 goals, 48 assists). In the summer of 2023, Comtois became an unrestricted free agent after the Ducks did not offer him a new contract. He began the 2023/24 season with the Chicago Wolves in the AHL, later signing with the Carolina Hurricanes but playing only one game.
On May 16, Comtois shared a highlight video of his Dynamo performances, captioning it, "Thank you, Dynamo." He previously mentioned having multiple offers to continue his NHL career.
According to unconfirmed reports, aside from Detroit, Comtois also has an offer from Boston.
