Previewing the Shriners Children's Open: A Celebration of Skill, Perseverance, and Charitable Spirit
The Shriners Children's Open is not just another stop on the PGA TOUR; it's a unique celebration of skill, perseverance, and charitable spirit that transcends the fairways of TPC Summerlin, its host site.
This year, the tournament shines a spotlight on young golfing sensation Tom Kim. Kim, who has had back-to-back wins in the last two seasons, is returning to one of his "happy places" and aims to build on his legacy in Las Vegas. His unique blend of charisma and dedication has become synonymous with his name since he burst onto the scene in 2022. Kim is just one of the many storylines that color this year's event, with several high-profile players competing to secure their positions before the end of the fall segment.
There are many players in good form coming into The Shriners.
From last week's winner, Matt McCarty, to runner-up Stephan Jaeger, or perhaps Beau Hossler, Adam Hadwin, or Aussie Cam Davis, there are plenty of players to keep an eye on.
Following the inaugural Black Desert Championship at the Black Desert Resort, TPC Summerlin, with its stunning landscape and challenging layout, is the perfect continuation of the PGA TOUR's fall series. The course demands a strategic game plan and will only reward players who can balance power with finesse.
Aside from the action on the course, the Shriners Children's Open distinguishes itself through its charitable endeavors, primarily supporting Shriners Hospitals for Children. The event raises millions of dollars annually, further embedding a more profound meaning into every putt and drive.
The atmosphere at TPC Summerlin is always charged with an energy that combines the grandeur of Las Vegas with the communal warmth of what this week's event means to such a great cause. This is sure to be a fantastic week on the PGA TOUR.
My Pick
As a fan of a good storyline, I can't help but root for Tom Kim's threepeat. His journey from a beloved figure on the PGA TOUR to a star on Netflix's Full Swing is one that resonates with many. I have a good feeling about his chances this week.
The DP World Tour Back in Spain and Jon Rahm Couldnt Be Happier
I've always been captivated by the unique charm of the DP World Tour and this year's Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters at the Real Club de Golf Sotogrande is no exception. Returning to this legendary course is a treat for players and fans. Nestled in the scenic embrace of southern Spain, the Real Club de Golf Sotogrande offers a challenging layout that will surely help write a new chapter in the continuing legacy of Spain's rich golf history.
Ángel Hidalgo, just a few weeks removed from his win at the Acciona Open de España, returns to his home turf, hoping to make the most of familiar surroundings this week. His compatriot, Jon Rahm, always a formidable contender, is setting high expectations for his week in Spain. With names like Hidalgo and Rahm in the field, the anticipation for the Andalucía Masters is palpable, and Spanish fans will be eager to see if another Spaniard can claim victory.
Beyond Rahm and Hidalgo, Thorbjørn Olesen is one other name to keep an eye on this week. The Danish golfer came oh so close to claiming another victory this season with his recent runner-up finish at the Le Golf National in France. With three top-15 finishes in his last four starts, Olesen is building momentum and looks poised for a strong performance.
Jeff Winther, who recently secured a second-place finish in France, is another name to watch. Between his performance in France and his top-ten finish from last year at Sotogrande, Winther could be well-positioned for a good week. Known for his calm under pressure, he presents a solid option for fans looking for an underdog to cheer for this week in Spain.
My Pick
You really can't look too far past the former World #1 Jon Rahm. Given his very comfortable surroundings and recent good play, I have to give him the nod this week. But this is golf, and any fan of the game knows full well that anything can happen on any given week.
BMW Ladies Championship Kicks Off Final Few Weeks Before CME Group Tour Championship
The LPGA BMW Ladies Championship, held at the formidable Seowon Hills Course at Seowon Valley Country Club in South Korea, will kick off today. The serene beauty of the Korean landscape offers a picturesque backdrop for what looks to be a great week with many exciting storylines.
The BMW Ladies Championship continues to attract an elite field, featuring some of the most recognizable names in women's golf. Last week's winner, Ruoning Yin, is poised to make a run at this week's event. Lydia Ko has had a phenomenal year, and notching another win in Korea would only add to the brilliance she has shown in 2024. Other names to watch include Lilia Vu, Brooke Henderson, and Rose Zhang.
With the CME Group Tour Championship looming and just four events remaining after this week, the top names on the LPGA Tour know what needs to be done to help solidify a successful season. Those players looking to secure a spot on tour in 2025 also understand what needs to be done over the next month, starting with how they play this week.
My Pick
I'll make this short and sweet. Lydia Ko's remarkable year will continue with a victory this week in South Korea.
