Goalkeeper Alexei Kolosov arrived in North America on Thursday to resolve contract issues with the Philadelphia Flyers and return back to Dynamo Minsk, a well-informed source told RG.
The 22-year-old from Belarus has a two-year contract with the Flyers. This week, the goalie left Minsk for Philadelphia to participate in the training camp.
“Kolosov’s goal is to come to Philadelphia and resolve the contract termination issue on the spot, which was impossible to do remotely," the source said. "He is expected back in Dynamo Minsk this fall, and his salary has been reserved. Kolosov does not want to play in America, but the KHL does not allow Kolosov to play for Dynamo while under contract with Flyers."
"Currently, the Flyers' two main goalies are Ivan Fedotov and Samuel Ersson. The team plans for Kolosov to play in the AHL. The player himself disagrees with this."
Kolosov played in two games late last season for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the AHL. He returned home and had not reported through the first week of camp.
"There is a possibility that Kolosov will stay in America if the Flyers can convince him," the source said. "But he went there to personally negotiate the termination of the contract because it is difficult to do this remotely."
